Edward Henstridge BSc (Hons). MCPod. PGCert Ultrasound

Musculoskeletal specialist podiatrist.

Edward is a musculoskeletal specialist podiatrist that specialises in treating people with foot, ankle and lower limb pain. He graduated from the University of Southampton in 1999 with an honour’s degree in podiatry. Since then he has gone on to serve 16 years in the NHS working in many roles but mainly as a clinical specialist in musculoskeletal and biomechanics with consultancy teams and latterly as the service lead. In 2015 he moved out of the NHS to work in a well-established private clinic in Salisbury where he was the Musculoskeletal specialist and clinical lead working closely with the consultant surgeons.

As well as being an expert in foot and ankle mechanics he is also an accredited foot and ankle ultrasonographer and a fully qualified injection therapist as well as a specialist in orthotics prescription and manufacture.

During your consultation with Edward he will ask lots of questions regarding your medical and physical history as well as specific questions about your pain. Then if you are happy, he will then go on to examine your foot and have a closer look at the painful area and assess the structures involved. He has diagnostic ultrasound available in clinic to give you a confirmed diagnosis. From this he will be able to advise you what treatment options you have available which could be anything from exercise therapy to gait analysis to injection therapy to orthoses. He will look to provide you with all the information you need for you to make an informed decision about what treatment options you have available.

Throughout his career Edward has always sought what is best for his patient’s and will not hesitate to discuss, suggest, and refer to any other professionals that both you and he would be of benefit to your treatment. You, and if requested your GP, will always be copied into any correspondence.

The most common conditions Edward treats are: –

Plantar fasciitis (plantar heel pain syndrome).

Morton’s Neuroma (peri-neural fibroma).

Joint pain.

Tendon pain

Ligament damage.

Most common treatments used are: –

Exercise therapy. This is usually a recommended course of stretches or strengthening exercises that we will try to build into your daily routine. These will also help compliment the other treatments

Orthoses. These can be an in-shoe insole or possibly an ankle brace to help redirect force away from or support the damaged or painful structure. Often used for short treatments but can be used long term in some conditions. These can be custom built for you or we can use premade devices depending on what is needed.

Injection. We have options of local anaesthetics, steroids (Depomedrone) or joint lubricants (Ostenil) used by themselves or in combination. These are always administered under ultrasound guidance.

Outside of work Edward has a wife and young daughters that he enjoys spending time with. He continues to enjoy playing hockey at his local club with reasonable success despite getting older and dodgy right knee. When not in a pandemic he helps run a local real ale festival that raises money for good causes.
